Ivey Mechanical Company provided HVAC and plumbing systems for the new maintenance dock facility. The systems installed include domestic water, chilled and hot water, steam, nitrogen, vacuum, compressed air, hydraulics, and aircraft conditioned air. The Fuel Cell and Maintenance Hangar located in Jackson, MS houses the Air Forces C-17 Globemaster III during its maintenance stages of service. Ivey Mechanical self performed the work associated with the HVAC ductwork, mechanical piping, and plumbing. Included in this work was a pivot boom containing ductwork, compressed air, and breathing air that swung over the wings of the plane to allow a user friendly environment while performing maintenance on the aircraft. Ivey also performed the site work servicing the hangar which included a 7,000 gallon oil water separator buried 18’ below grade, storm and sanitary waste. Owner: U. S. This $28 million facility one of the most advanced and sophisticated military training centers in the world and trains all branches of the U.S. armed services and its allies for detection and decontamination of chemicals associated with chemical warfare. The facility contains classrooms, training and administrative areas, support facilities, controlled interior decontamination areas, a medical clinic, and a laboratory. Ivey self-performed 80% of the $7,100,000 contract, which included all HVAC, plumbing, controls, test and balance, commissioning, and a highly advanced system for the removal and filtering of chemical agents used in training. Best Specialty Construction Project - Southeast Construction Magazine
The new 100,000 square foot fitness center includes a natatorium, locker rooms, whirlpool and sauna area; rock climbing room, exercise rooms, physical therapy space, storage spaces, swimming pools, basketball, racquetball and volleyball courts, and brand new exercise equipment. The facility is considered to be one of the largest of its kind in the Army. This project required some unique construction challenges. The plumbing rough-in was incalled in block wall construction. 1,450 feet of collapsible fabric duct for the HVAC system was installed in the large open exercise areas. A pool dehumification unit was installed which controls the humidity in the pool area and heats the water. Ivey co-workers completed more than 30,000 manhours with no recordable incidents. Superior Performance Award
This$183 million 850,000 square foot facility brings four locations within the U.S. Army personnel record keeping and finance together in one central location and houses 4,200 civilian and military personnel in six buildings. The complex consists of five three-story buildings with connectors between the buildings on the third floor and a single story facility which houses the data center and central plant area. The data center is served by two 600 ton chillers with a cooling tower, pumps, and 34 Liberts units. 95% of the plumbing and HVAC material was prefabricated, including in-wall plumbing, ductwork, and HVAC piping. Safe Contractor of the Year - Army Corps of Engineers
The Von Braun Center Complex Phase II project consisted of a 5-story 231,000 square foot office building and an expansion to the existing central plant. Ivey and its subcontractors were responsible for the installation of the building’s HVAC system which consists of a four pipe chilled water/heating water system which serves multiple air handlers and numerous variable air volume boxes. The central plant expansion includes one new 1,050 ton water cooled chiller, one 50 ton emergency back-up air cooled chiller, one cooling tower, two hot water boilers and associated pumps. Ivey was honored with the Safe Contractor of the Year award from the Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District Celebrate Safety program in November 2006, in recognition of more than 58,000 man hours worked by Ivey and its subcontractors with no lost-time accidents.
