The Federal Express World Headquarters was built to consolidate all of the administrative Federal Express offices scattered across the Memphis metropolitan area. Consisting of 8 buildings, the Federal Express World Headquarters complex covers 89.02 acres and is equipped to house between 3,500 and 4,500 employees. Some of the facility’s amenities include an upscale dining hall, travel services, a company store, exercise facilities, a 1.5 mile walking/jogging trail, a 450-seat auditorium, a credit union and spectacular views of the landscaped courtyard leading out toward the base of the fifth hole at Tournament Players Club (TPC) at the Southwind golf course. Four of the buildings adjoin the golf course, and the other four buildings have the view of a landscaped courtyard containing and ‘oxbow” configured water feature and footpaths.Ivey installed more than 9,000 floor diffusers, along with a ductless-style under-floor heating and cooling system. The monumental stairs were moved to the outside of the buildings and were surrounded by glass, which created a HVAC challenge for the Ivey team.Safety being a primary focus, Ivey co-workers at the FedEx project celebrated 398,491 safe man-hours after 33 months of work. The cost per man-hour was $.03 with more than 200 Ivey co-workers on site at the peak of the project.
