The Federal Express World Headquarters was built to consolidate all of the administrative Federal Express offices scattered across the Memphis metropolitan area. Consisting of 8 buildings, the Federal Express World Headquarters complex covers 89.02 acres and is equipped to house between 3,500 and 4,500 employees. Ivey installed more than 9,000 floor diffusers, along with a ductless-style under-floor heating and cooling system. The monumental stairs were moved to the outside of the buildings and were surrounded by glass, which created a HVAC challenge for the Ivey team. Ivey co-workers at the FedEx project celebrated 398,491 safe man-hours after 33 months of work. Owner: Gate Petroleum Company / General Contractor: Auld and White Constructors / Contract Amount: $2,567,906
Merit Award: Specialty Contractor Category - Southeast Construction Magazine
The Riverplace Tower is a 420,000 square foot 28 story high rise office building. Ivey's HVAC portion of this renovation project consisted of removing and replacing the ductwork, piping, and induction units in the tennat areas; removing and replacing the air handlers, piping, and ductwork in the building; installing ductwork from the third floor to the twenty-eighth floor; changing out the hot water heaters; and removing and replacing the plumbing in the restrooms throughout the building. Ivey installed new 1000 ton chillers, two field erected cooling tower cells, one pre-fabricated stainless tower, three verticle turbine condenser water pumps, controls, insulation, and new supporting electrical infrastructure including switchgear and transformers. This work was done while the building was 88% occupied. Owner: Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. / General Contractor: Holder Construction Company / Contract Amount: $7,737,933
Scientific Atlanta is a cable and satellite products firm. Approximately 870 employees from six locations were consolidated into the new buildings, which total 300,000 square feet. The facility houses research and development, marketing, and engineering. Ivey was responsible for the HVAC and plumbing for the new facility which included the installation of approximately 250,000 pounds of ductwork and 25,000 linear feet of piping. Owner: Hall Financial Group / General Contractor: Turner Construction / Contract Amount: $2,246,678
The Kirby was renovated to help restore historic charm in the downtown area while providing tenants with technological advantages. The 17 story structure once was an office building but now houses 157 apartments and 15,000 square feet of retail space. Renotating The Kirby presented unique challenges beginning with the structure's age and the owner's desire to maintain all historical detail.
